Organic

When I entered the store, my face smiled at all the beautiful voluptuous fruit and veggies calling to me from the shelves. Asparagus. Asparagus was what I needed for tonight’s dinner, as well as Goat’s milk for my daughter, so Whole Foods seemed to be the right choice. The asparagus were long, lean, just like I like them. But I froze when I saw the price - $4.99 a lb! Looking around, I noticed that everything was like that $4.00lb for leeks, $5.99 lb for Flank steak, $15.00 for Pete’s coffee (the best coffee out there). Swallowing my disbelief and my composure, because at this time people were beginning to look at me sideways with every expelled breath I made, I began casually shopping and humming to myself, playing the part of a rich grocery store shopper. I even flippantly threw in some organic dried rasberries for the kids at $6.99, convincing myself — it’s for their health. The cashier rang up the grocries and I didn’t have a care in the world, besides I was helping the global economy, as a little sign explained to me in green, printed on recycled paper of course.

Afterwards we walked to the Starbucks on the corner — I had a vanilla latte, Aiden had his usual chocolate milk and Matisse just waved to the other carefree people. We were happy and satisfied becoming organically green.
